Ravi S. Vinayak, PhD – Principal

Dr. Vinayak has more than 20 years of experience as a scientist and a business development executive in academia and industry. He is well known for his technical contributions to the chemistry and biology of nucleic acids, DNA synthesis, DNA sequencing, real-time PCR and mass spectrometry. Dr. Vinayak consults to the biotech industry on issues related to venture capital, technology transactions including licensing and negotiations, strategic partnering, and research and development. He started his industry career as an Associate Scientist at Applied Biosystems and eventually rose to the position of Senior Manager, Business Development. In his role as a business development executive, Dr. Vinayak led, managed and directed activities relating to new technology transactions. In addition, he nurtured relationships with major alliances including university tech transfer offices, start-ups and academic institutions worldwide and also led an interdisciplinary team effort in conducting business analysis identifying clear and compelling cases for licensing and partnering or acquisition of new technologies. Dr. Vinayak has published more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals, has contributed to several book chapters, and has obtained four patents. He received his PhD from the University of Alberta, Canada and completed his post-doctoral research at the Nucleic Acids Research Institute in Costa Mesa and at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, both in California.
