Carl Schaper, PhD – Principal

Dr. Schaper has over 20 years of experience providing statistical expertise to assist clients meet their objectives both effectively and efficiently. After working as a consultant in the energy industry, he changed his focus to biomedical research and has worked primarily in the area of in-vitro diagnostics. Dr. Schaper has been the principal statistician on successful regulatory filings in the areas of oncology, infectious diseases and blood-screening. Since 2000, he has consulted independently for a variety of diagnostics and biotechnology clients providing statistical consulting in all phases of product development including product feasibility assessments, product optimization and robustness, manufacturing quality control and clinical trial design and analysis. Prior to that, Dr. Schaper managed the non-clinical statistics group at Chiron Corporation and subsequently the biostatistics group in support of Nucleic Acid Development at Bayer Healthcare. He received his BS and MS degrees in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Natal, Durban, South Africa and his PhD in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley, and was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Washington where he worked on statistical issues in HIV vaccine trial design.
